Coaching is available for all members, with a particular emphasis on encouraging junior members to develop their games in an inclusive atmosphere. All junior coaching sessions take place under the supervision of qualified coaches, who ensure that the experience of learning tennis is friendly, enjoyable and challenging for children of all ages and abilities. Linden grew up in Sussex, where he was county tennis Champion, and still represents the county when time allows. He qualified as a coach in 1978 and has been building on his skills, experience and qualifications ever since. He has been privileged to lead a range of clubs, including the well known Hallamshire in Sheffield, and is really happy to be working back at Tavistock.
Linden has coached all standards from university teams to schools. During his career he has coached county and performance players including those in the top 100. He has set up a wide range of courses from ‘Tennis for the Terrified‘ to individualised programmes for aspiring professionals.
Linden has played extensively to a high level, including Wimbledon Pre qualifying. He has successfully represented GB in the Over 35s category, once as captain. In 2002 he was in the team that won the Italia Cup world team championships in Miami Florida, and was also ranked 18th in the world over 35s! In October 2008 he played for GB in Turkey, coming 7th. He is currently ranked 54 in the world over 40.
Linden’s approach is to make lessons fun, supportive and interesting, taking account of the different ways people learn best. He believes racquet sports can play an important role in developing the aspirations and self esteem of all, regardless of ability.
Josh Brown (Professional Tennis Registry UK)

Josh Brown has been playing tennis since the age of 10 and has significant experience as a player, having played all over the country and was selected to play for the county. Josh plays in the National Club League for the Devonshire and in the A team for Tavy, and is currently ranked in the top 10 in the county. Josh spent last year recovering from serious injury, so knows what its like to face and overcome challenges.
Josh started assisting with tennis groups at the age of 12. He then went on to take his PTR coaching qualification at the age of just 16, one of the youngest in the world to do so. Josh has coached at the Devonshire, undertaking a range of work from running the Saturday mini tennis programme to working with performance players.
Josh is devoted to sports and is currently about to complete a BTEC National Diploma in Sports Studies, and hopes to go on to study coaching at university. Josh is happy to work with youngsters or adults, beginners to performance. He relates well to all ages and abilities, aiming to make lessons fun and rewarding, whilst supporting players to develop their technical skills.
