Tavistock Tennis Club held the Finals of the Knock Out Tournament on Saturday afternoon, followed by a BBQ and the opportunity to watch the Carnival procession, accompanied by the many bands passing by on Plymouth Road. This competition has been played over several months by a record number of participants, so the finals were particularly exciting. Phil Harbottle made it to three of the finals and was victorious in two, only being beaten by Luke Wakeley, who is a third of Phil's age, in the last match, the men's singles. Amanda Goodison also had two wins and her husband Max took part in one final as well as organizing the event.

Vets' Mixed Doubles. Phil Harbottle & Hilary Picton won 6-1, 6-4, against Ray Hinton & Trica Mowle.

Men's Doubles. Phil Harbotte & Matt Smith won 7-5, 6-2 against Mike Webb and Max Goodison

Men's Singles. Phil Harbottle v Luke Wakeley, who took the match to a nail biting third set, eventually winning 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

The Ladies Singles was played very defensively, neither player giving points away unnecessarily, but eventually Amanda Goodison won 6-3, 6-4 against a very determined Alice Anstee.

Ladies Doubles. Amanda Goodison & Di Kersey winning 6-1, 6-4 against Roma McMahon & Ruth Newman.

The whole tournament was organized and played in a friendly and professional way. The cups were presented by the Club's President, Norma Woodcock, who is a keen supporter of all the events at the club.

The Committee would like to thank all the players who took part, Rod Watson for running the BBQ and all the members for their valuable help as well as the enthusiastic support of the families and friends of the players.
